Thank you, as always, for your kind comments - your wonderful bids. always, alexandra *********************** TYPE OF LOCK:  large wave in lock - large ringlet curl at end of each lock LENGTH OF LOCK: in above description **NOTE: this weight is "approximate" - all scales differ slightly and we utilize an extremely accurate "pennyweight" scale - 20 pennyweights to the ounce.
DYES: DISCLAIMER ON DARK DYES:  I take the greatest care to rinse - rinse and rinse yet again your darkly dyed mohair.   The hottest cleanest water is used (this is after sudsing twice in hot water wash.)  However, there might be some residual "bleeding" occur in your darkly dyed mohair.  My understanding, from being in the business for many many years, is that my brand of conditioner that I use to comb mohair - mixed with your conditioner will SOMETIMES cause the dyes to bleed.    There are easy ways to remedy this if you should experience bleeding dyes (it is NOT dirt, it is residual dye.)
We who produce mohair for our dear dolly customers usually use acid dyes (which are the best for color fast dyes) on our mohair.  Yes, I've already done most of the work for you - I have already rinsed your mohair at least three times in hot water (and washed in gentle soaps.) However, there is a slight possibility that your dark batch of mohair will still bleed.  The darker the color, the more likely mohair will bleed.  Though  I do my best to watch that my rinse water sparkles cleanly after the last rinse, but again - when you spritz your mohair for its final combing with your brand of conditioner -  it can cause the dye to slightly bleed.  What should you do when you receive your package of dark mohair from me? **I suggest the following:  ALWAYS test your darker colored mohairs with hot water (from the tap is fine) - hot, not boiling.  TEST TO SEE IF IT BLEEDS.  Grab a lock of mohair - put it under your hot water tap.   If you see it running color under hot tap water, you know you must do something else before rooting your pretty doll's head.  What is that?  Take a lock from the batch and rinse it in hot tap water until it quits bleeding.  Lay it on a paper towel.  Do this ALL GENTLY so you don't lose the "combing" of the mohair (you don't want tangles!)  Get another lock from the batch - rinse away and lay gentle on your paper towel.  Now you have a line up of wet locks.  You can root from wet locks, or wait until they dry and then root.  But your problem is FIXED.  No more bleeding to worry about! By the way, I do not use harsh chemicals in the processing of my mohair.  Hot water and a vinegar mordant is all I use to set dyes.  Believe me, if angora goats had DARK BROWN mohair on them, I, Alexandra, would shear those lovely fleeces and never dye another batch of mohair!  I love natural best.  But who can deny that a dark head of baby hair is gorgeous?  So, I use plenty of dark dyes.  Hoping we can work together to make your babies PERFECT, I remain your supplier of quality mohair - and hope to also answer any mohair questions you might have.  (After 30 years of angora goat farming, I'd better know something!)

alexandra (aka the Mohairgoat)
further, in regard to dyes: The best premium dyes (acid dyes) are used to dye this mohair.  Often I blend different colored dyes to achieve just the right color.  I feel like a "color alchemist" when I stand at my stove over my dye pots.  "Oh, I love that shade of blond," I'll say as I carefully stir and lift my dye spoon from the hot dye water, bringing up some locks of mohair in a gorgeous hue.  Or I'll see a baby's head when in town and say to myself, "I've got to achieve THAT color..."   I put the groceries away, take out the dye pots and find a lovely batch of mohair to dye up... After dying a batch of mohair, I take one lock - and carefully dry it.  After that it is placed  in natural light (sunlight usually) to judge whether I see "off colors" or not. Like you, I don't like "greens" - and so I sometimes have to redye locks - or, if the batch does not meet my inspection, I put it away in my "seconds" bag.  If it's gorgeous, it's ready for stage II - the WASH process. After dyeing I wash in VERY HOT water and suds to make sure all the dye is gone.  Many times there are more than two HOT rinses and sometimes three,  to stave off bleeding as much as in my power to do so (see above disclaimer on dark dyes.)  The DARK colors are the ones to really watch closely, and I do. After rinsing I let the mohair dry (if there is sunshine outside, it dries in the sunshine.)   I make sure it is not accessible to my kitties, for they love to lounge in that soft mohair - and if you have pets, you'll notice that also!  (So, watch where you put your carefully combed mohair!) By the way, this is a SMOKE FREE home and I use a fresh scented leave on conditioner at my last combing, which means your mohair will smell wonderful when received.  (We are complimented often on the wonderful "smell" of our mohair!) COMBING: After the mohair is dry - it must be combed.  I comb until there are no knots.  No tangles!  (I use a special leave on conditioner for my last combing.) We are proud to offer this quality mohair to the OOAK (one of a kind dolls) and REBORN community.   As always, we hope the pictures show you what is being offered.   The PREMIUM MOHAIR shown is the angora mohair that will be mailed to you. As always, we stand by our promise to return your money if you are not completely satisfied.  From our farm to your home, with love. Alexandra, SINGING FALLS
