Burgess and Leigh, also known as Burleigh, Burslem, Midport Pottery is a pottery company with a rich history dating back over 160 years. The company was initially established by Messrs Hulme and Booth in Burslem, Stoke-On-Trent, England, and later relocated to Middleport Pottery by the Trent and Mersey Canal in 1889, where it remains today. The company is renowned for its commitment to fine craftsmanship and traditional manufacturing, particularly in the production of iconic blue and white ceramics using age-old techniques such as underglaze tissue. The pottery is also famous for its "Florida" patterned plates, which were produced between 1900 and 1919. The company's products are highly sought after and can be found in various antique markets and auctions, including those in Florida. The "Florida" patterned plates are characterized by their blue and white floral design.
The tureen from 1912-1919 (mark) is interesting as it still includes the original ladle.
